Factors Affecting Normal Blood Pressure

Both pathological, as well as physiological factors, affect blood pressure.

Physiological factors include:

  • Exercise
  • Age
  • Gender
  • Sleep
  • Emotions

Pathological conditions can also disturb the blood pressure toward high or low

1. Exercise

After a moderate workout, blood pressure rises 20 to 30mm Hg above normal while in the case of extensive exercise, it may rise up to 40 to 50 mm of Hg above baseline.

2. Age And Gender

Blood pressure also depends on age as well as the sex of an individual. Blood pressure increases with age. In premenopausal women, blood pressure is higher than in men but after menopause, it becomes higher than in men of the same age

3. Sleep

Sleep also has somewhat effect on blood pressure. It usually rises up to 15 to 20 mm of Hg above baseline in case of deep sleep but in dreamy sleep, it rises somewhat.

4. Emotional Conditions

During excitement or anxiety, a hormone called Adrenaline is released in our bodies that is responsible for increasing blood pressure
